| Health and happiness is what it is all about, not only for you but your gliders too! So start with a healthy balanced diet, add lots of play time and room to glide and you will have the makings of a great relationship.
If you feed a balanced diet of fruit, dairy and protein you can not go wrong, plus it takes the guess work out of adding supplements. Remember supplements are just that; a supplement for something you are not getting. So feed a healthy balanced diet and you won't need to add them.
Our flying critters always get a serving of protein, dairy and a fresh fruit or vegetable everyday. These are served fresh in the evening just as they are getting up and the dishes are removed and washed in the morning. They always have fresh water and crushed monkey biscuits in their cages just incase they get up and need a snack. Our guys are lucky as we live in Florida and the weather is perfect for outside living, so they live large aviaries outside and are able to catch the odd unsuspecting lizard and a few bugs for extra protein and a special treat!
I will add a list of some of the things our critters really enjoy.
Protein: (70% of their diet)
Gerber baby sausages (chicken or turkey); Steamed or boiled chicken or turkey; Nuts; Peanut Butter; Boiled or scrambled eggs
Calcium: (15% of their diet)
Yogurt with fat(YoBaby yogurt); Sour cream; Cream cheese
Vegetables:
Any kind of vegetables they will eat. If using frozen vegetables (corn, peas or mixed veggies) just defrost them by running them under hot water. Mine love broccoli but I do have to steam them a little to soften them up. No canned vegetables.
Fruit:
Any kind of fresh fruit just see what they like. They love the fruit sauces like apple sauce and mixed berry sauce. I mix mine with vanilla yogurt and they seem to really like it.
Sugar gliders are funny little critters sometimes they will not eat a certain kind of food and then you give them it again in a couple of weeks and you would think it was their favorite the way they eat it. They like variety and get tired of eating the same stuff every night. They do seem to like baby food but do give them fresh fruit and vegetables to as they need crunchy stuff for their teeth plus they like to pick up their food and hold it while they eat.
DO NOT feed cat or ferret food! These diets are made for their specific needs plus your gliders will start to smell and develop medical issues.
Remember ABSOLUTELY NO CHOCOLATE!!
